Inspirability
by PASH, Matt Pashkow
Given to me most graciously by my friend Heather, my nose has been buried in this book for a couple weeks now. Take 40 well-known designers, sit them down, and interview them about inspiration. Sounds simple. The answers are fantastic. I love learning how other designers find their inspiration. Great book for quick glances or long reads.

(07/31)Barbrook Bible. Graphic design and self-sacrifice.
(07/31)Samurai film poster. Nice.
(07/31)Ringing School College of Art & Design gets a new identity. Being a Florida school with deep ties to the state, I’m a little confused as to why they went with a Chicago-based firm. Regardless, I like the approach of “framing” ideas.
Graphical representation of CEO pay. I’m sure they all give back to the community.
(07/30)NES Mash-Up. So where’s Duck Hunt?
(07/30)Poison seed cure for biofuel? Yeah, just don’t eat ‘em.

(07/27)Orlando’s new downtown. I worked with the Performing Arts Center on fundraising materials, so I’m quite proud of their accomplishment. Having only lived here two years, I still look at it from distant eyes. Regardless of my thoughts over how tax dollars should be spent, I can honestly say revitalizing downtown is essential for Orlando to become a significant city.
(07/27)Indy. She’s back.
(07/27)Rowling reveals more about the Epilogue. Spoiler alert. But you should know this by now.
(07/26)Man with ‘abnormally small brain’ leads normal life. It’s called the Dandy Walker Syndrome. Isn’t that wonderful?
(07/26)Blackle. Kind of a weird name, but the idea is simple. Black screens save energy, compared to white. Google, being the dominant gorilla in the room, could save the world huge amounts of energy by doing this. From a design standpoint I don’t like black screens, but under the circumstances I’d be willing to let it go.
(07/26)Keeping our paranoia in check, I suddenly feel like a Big Mac and fries.
(07/26)Beowulf, new movie from Robert Zemeckis. This has been on my radar for over a year. I enjoyed The Polar Express, but the animation fell flet in emotion. Looks like this might just solve it.
(07/26)Plug n cradle device. Makes sense. I hate fumbling in the dark for my phone’s cord, leading to my phone… and then tripping. Always tripping in the dark.
(07/26)Making Reddit more Web 2.0. What a bunch of horse crap.

(07/25)Obesity map, 1985-2004. Doesn’t anyone just take a fucking walk anymore?
(07/25)The future’s now, finally! Meet the new spacesuit. Only took 50 years. Apparently astronauts won’t experience muscle deterioration as quickly (a huge problem with longterm space travel).

(07/24)I spent last weekend curled up sprawled out on the couch reading the seventh (and, for those of you living under a literary rock, the last) Harry Potter book. I'm not a hardcore fan in any way. I've read all the books, but I make so claims to be a superior fan. I'm casual in every way. I also appreciate Harry's magical world. I can't talk specifics, but however JK Rowling weaves her world it certainly works well on me.

(07/19)Computer “solves” checkers. Just like that? Solves checkers? Man, that’s depressing.
(07/19)Frost on grass. Nature gets more and more amazing the deeper we go.
(07/19)For the record, not everything is better on the Internet. For instance, Skype. The five people I’ve spoken with over Skype sounded like gnashing teeth through a metal grate. How is this a good thing? Maybe because I’m on a land line? Once they fix a little glitch called “Can’t freaking hear you” I’ll check it out.
(07/19)White Stripes play one-note concert and cheers erupt. Had any other band attempted this, rioting would have occurred. God bless the White Stripes!

(07/16)Wealthiest Americans ever. A superb infographic.
(07/15)Asahi Beerbot. Beer-pouring robot? Could there be a better reason for the furthering of robot technology?

(07/13)iPhone: the Musical. Okay I don’t one anymore.
(07/13)Interview with John Gall, art director for Vintage and Anchor Books. “…it doesn’t seem appropriate to compare the launch of a new Cormac McCarthy novel with, say, the launch of Ultra Caffiene Free Diet Coke With New Anal Seepage Reducing Splenda.”
(07/13)Trunkt. Buying directly from artists. Internet power at its finest.
(07/13)Web Economy Bullshit Generator. Sad to say, but this could actually work during a business pitch. [marc]

(07/11)Zen habits for your to-do list. I’ll be the first to admit I’m great at writing lists, but not the greatest at execution, so this is a welcomed list.
(07/11)Marcios Imnch. I like the use of a movable background image.
